Enhancement proposal: zoom #50

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

Hello,

In the picture view window, could it be possible to add some zoom option ?
and yes, it also goes with moving around, so it's probably not that
straightforward...

Best regards,
François

I'd like to suggest something: I can see 2 ways to implement a zoom:

1 - the classic system where the user selects a zone and the software zooms the
image
so that the selected zone fills the window. In this mode, the user has to do
something to unzoom. Many Windows image viewers use this system.

2 - a "simple" "direct" mode where the users sets a predefined zoom ratio
(usually
1:1) and the user just clicks on a point of the image and the software displays
the
area of the image surrounding that zone at the pre-defined zoom ratio. In this
mode,
the software unzooms as soon as the user releases the mouse button. As long as
the
user keeps the mouse button depressed, he can pan on the image. Very
user-friendly
IMO. I only know of one Windows image viewer who uses this system: FastStone
Image
Viewer.

I usually prefer the second mode, since I seldom need a ratio of more than 1:1
(except if I am editing an image, but jBrout is not an image editor!) and this
ensures that the zoomed display won't have ugly artefacts. But maybe other
users will
feel differently.

Seems interesting, though probably a little puzzling for new users. I guess I
agree
for zoom more that 1:1 (unless you want to see something really big on your
screen
even with pixels), but what if you want less than 1:1 ? just zooming in a face
without seeing the nose hair (with todays cameras resolution, between
fullscreen and
1:1 there might be a world...)

I suggest this is too important to discuss here. I am going to post a request
for
ideas in the group.
