Can't upload asset model image with periods in filename #56

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Attempt to upload an asset model image with a filename containing more
than 1 period.  Example:  my.test.gif

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The file should be uploaded.  Instead you receive the following message:

"Invalid file type. Image must be either .jpg, .gif, or .png"
