For the page, I used github pages which is free and automatically generated by github. All that is required is the text and the choosing of a theme. Here is a link if your interested: http://pages.github.com/
The standalone installer sounds like a great addition along with providing the user with the option of conducting a local or deep search. I was also thinking of a feature that would allow the user to manually add/remove files to the files to be copied/removed list.
In regards to git, I am also pretty new to git and really programming in general so don't worry about any mistakes you might make using git. I am sure i will make plenty myself :/
this is fun working with you. i thing manually adding and removing files is a great idea. but in this case i thing the user has to be presented with the names of file and location before it is copied or removed by the app so as to make a decision on what to add or remove. i also thing proving a check box by the names will do the trick.
this is my first time using Tkinker i normally use PyQt. but it is fun working with you. i hope we can work more when it comes to final project on startup at coursera.org
by the way i have a project call timeTracker try it out. it is also written in python and it used pyqt and pyttsx
So I just forked timeTracker and am excited to get my hands dirty and check it out. I have never used PyQt so it will be a great learning experience. I have also enjoyed working with you and hope we can come up with something clever for the final project. Probably have a better end result with the both of us working on the project.
definitely two head are better than one
so what project do you thing we should work upon
for the final project?
yes
I was thinking something along the lines of an app that integrates all of the users cloud storage services like dropbox, ubuntu one, etc. That might be a little above my level of programming, though. Have any ideas?
i think not if you are ready to do it you will. after all we can work together. But the problem is, do these cloud storage services have API that we can use?
well for me i was thinking of a web app the do the following
Interesting concept. I think some sites like eBay amazon Walmart and the like have API that we could use to get up off the ground. We could then add more local shops once the service becomes more established. I don't know many places would pay to use a service like that, though. We could use google ads or something similar to make profit from the service
do you thing is a good idea? i am beginning to doubt the idea.
I think it is a great idea. However, we would have to offer features that services like google shopping don't currently offer. Also these features would have to be enticing enough for customers to leave the convenience that google provides and start using our app which is no small feat. Just from reading your description I don't know if we have that ground breaking feature yet.
On a different note, I have looked into several cloud services and almost all of them have node and python API support. So if your intrigued by that idea at all I think it would be doable. We also have some time before we start our project so maybe we should get some more ideas listed an we can choose the one we feel could be the most successful/fun
i agree with you let us get more ideas, the thing is i am not doing this project for the course but i want to really start something. so we can do it, after all, all of as have a file or two in the cloud and managing it form a central point will be good
Hi by the way i love the page you have created for the project, how did you do that, this is what i want to do i am currently working on creating a standalone window installer using NSIS. and also i noticed that when your src folder have other folder in them, the app turns to search that folder also. i think this functionally should be given to the user. thus the user should choose if the app should do a deep search or search only the current src folder excluding other folders.
i want to express my deepest regret for not been able to push thing correctly I AM NEW TO GIT but learning fast you can also teach me, i will be happy thanks
