Hi Bryan
Interesting! I’ve tried several packages for constructing tables in rmarkdown and find kableExtra to be one of the more straightforward. Interestingly, the author of knitr gives pretty extensive coverage to kableExtra in his book on rmarkdown, so bit surprising that there is silence from the kableExtra author.
Spring break begins here tomorrow. Heading to NC for the week. Then back for six more weeks of classes and then a break until January!
Take care, David

And it turns out the problem is not us, but with the kableExtra package we use. It looks like there has been little activity from the authors since 16 Dec 2021. I filed an issue here https://github.com/haozhu233/kableExtra/issues/695.
We can get by w/o this package, it just adds some nice styling. If we don't hear from them by the end of March, we'll drop the use of kableExtra. We are not the only ones in this boat.
