Different versions are now feature-gated with this, so this also closes #29 (this suggests per purpose, but we will stick with version for now, since both will be bloat the feature-list).

Merging into new v0.5.0 branch as discussion in #40 develops and the changelog in this PR has grown quite large and will continue to grow.
