MATE (X11) - SDDM

– when truly it's always KDE Plasma 5

I can't find a reliable way to detect DE on BSD. If it's not detected from DESKTOP_SESSION environment variable (due to missed -E flag of sudo), then it's trying to detect DE according to the list of installed packages. But in your particular case both environments are installed.
