I added probably too many details with the idea that it will be important to get this right eventually. Don't expect it would make sense to put all of this into this first version but thought it may help from a development planning perspective.
I'm going to start with Yelp's restaurant page as a template with new categories (1st page below)
Yelp's page is broken into 3 areas (Left half of page, Right half top, Right half Bottom).
The following could be on the left half of page: (reference 1st image below - yelp screen)
Logo (see screen shot), Business name, Veteran category (Vet owned, Disabled Vet owned, Vet friendly, etc.) , Industry category (restaurant, real estate, IT, software, ) Distance (from location), Better Biz rating ( not sure about this?), Hours of Operation. I'm sure this won't all fit though so maybe Logo, name, vet category, category, distance).
The bottom right quadrant could be detailed info. on the business. This could contain a story of the Veteran(s) time in the service. It could contain Thumb nail Icons of the recent SoS profile pics of those checking in. The third picture attached displays this.
The top right quadrant could be a mini-map so that you could see where the businesses listed are on a map & there is a visual connection to the previous larger screen search map. Sometimes just distance from a location isn't enough.
Additionally, We may want to provide a toggle switch for searching for vet biz or just vet discounts. This is one idea of what a vet discount page (sponsors that could be willing to spend lots of $ to get preferential listings at the top. or if you pay $x amount per month..you get your logo and just your name if you don't pay some small premium). Lastly, adding little icons for SoS total checkins would be cool. When a Vet Biz or Vet friendly sees some kind of measurement, it will turn on their competitive spirit.
(Revision) - I believe that both Veteran owned business (VOB) and Vet. friendly businesses (VFB) should show up on the default map. However, VOB & VFB should be clearly delineated on the 'Offers' Tab with VOB receiving a priority over the VFB. Or, we could have a separate 3rd Tab featuring only VFB which may allow us to charge a premium to VFB sponsors who will be happy to pay it. The format could be similar to the one in the image below. This will be seen as the more promotional, sponsorship side of SoS offering significant value through discounts & saving to Veterans & Military. Ok to be a little more disruptive with mobile Ads in this part of SoS.
(this is another way of displaying Vet sponsored businesses or Vet owned biz that are paying for the premium promotional any time subscription.)
