Brian, let me know in where I can help. I pretty interested in this topic. And this could lead to a other Committee about Standardization.
Unicode encourage to discuss proposals prior submission in their mailing list http://unicode.org/mailman/listinfo/unicode
bitcoinsymbol.org lays out a strong argument for the use of an existing symbol for bitcoin. Link provided by Brian Koffler.
I believe the acceptance of bitcoinsymbol.org could be a recommendation of the education committee to the board. The issue has been discussed on the forum and may create educated debate if presented to the membership this way. I would be happy to put it in the next Member's Newsletter if this committee can come to agreement.

I just looked at bitcoinsymbol.org and it's really an excellent argument for an existing Unicode symbol and they provide great graphic resources to get things going. Not that we are voting but I say yes let's support the symbol Ƀ and make it a recommendation of the ed committee.
A Foundation committee has been formed to look at this issue
I'm on the committee. Info here:
Use this placeholder document to work on the proposal to the Unicode organization. Brian Koffler is taking the lead.
