PAFS GIF doesn't work

What steps will reproduce the problem?
executing the PAFS GIF example bundled with latest beta release (not milestone)

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
what appends on DS:
expected output: 
top screen: mollusk avatar on 16bit bg
bottom screen: grey animated gif (with a smile) on 8 bit bg
what i saw:
top screen: mollusk avatar on 16bit bg
bottom screen: green screen with some kind of strange "refresh" effect

after a while, first 20 pixel columns on top screen are overwritten with
white/grey little squares

what appends on desmume:
expected output: 
top screen: mollusk avatar on 16bit bg
bottom screen: grey animated gif (with a smile) on 8 bit bg
what i saw:
top screen: mollusk avatar on 16bit bg
bottom screen: gif isn't shown

What version of PAlib are you using ?
PAlib latest beta (not milestone)

Testing on DS or emulator ?
both
