These also seem worth discussion. I don't see any scans on the gsung rten db. Am I missing them or is that part of the collaboration? Is "Continued Foliation" and indication of whether folio numbering continues from one text to the next?
For hasFrame
styles are you thinking of double line vs single line vs vertical lines on left and right but not a full box and so on?
The idea of hasPagination
could be complicated since there are the traditional indications in the textbox of each folio, then there maybe zero or more page numberings. I've seen compilations where there are two or three page numbers stamped or written on the pages. One place I recall is in the kama shintu rgyas pa that has volumes that were added by apparently photocopying volumes from other compilations and adding them into the new larger kama - the section on guyhagarbha commentaries I think has some pages with numbering from the previous compilation and numbers corresponding to the new compilation.
Most of the gsung rten database is not public yet, but there is no scan images, they're just gathering information on the scans they have. In other words, they only input the metadata about the manuscripts, not the images.
I don't know what 'Continued Foliation' means, I'll ask.
I was thinking exactly about that for frame styles indeed
For the page numbering, the use case is about the original page numbering (the one printed by the wood block), it can serve as an indication to find what printery it comes from. I'm not sure paginiation of photocopy has some use cases, but it may be worth cataloguing it.
What is the collaboration we would have with them (I notice they are at least partially funded by Khyentse). How large is the collection? How much has been scanned?
They're sending their scans to bdrc already, the public collection is about one work which is already on bdrc. The long term goal of the collaboration is to link the two datasets (they're using omeka which produces linked-data, although there's no rdf endpoint directly), like for other partners.
I've added the meaning of continuedFoliation
in the original comment of the issue
the gsung rten database has some interesting vocabulary to describe manuscript, they use it to find possible matches in terms of style, printing place, method, etc. maybe we could include it:
hasFrame
(boolean, or maybe we want to have different styles?)numberOfLines
(in the normal case of course, not on the title page)hasPagination
(or maybe here we could discriminate between several types of page numbering schemes)continuedFoliation
is a boolean expressing the continued page numbering from one textual unit to another in the same volume, for instance it's wrong if each text of the volume starts with page number 1
