Button to minimize IIIF image viewer needed #743

The issue I'm addressing here is that it not possible to simply minimize the IIIF image viewer. Can we create a button that simply minimizes the image viewer so that one can directly return to the underlying text record behind the scans?

eroux commented 2 years ago

The "Return to BUDA" button has that function but we can add a cross in the top right corner that would do that same. If we do so we can either keep the "Return to BUDA" button or remove it. What would you prefer?

JannTibetan commented 2 years ago

The X is more conventional and also doesn't necessitate that people understand the meaning of BUDA. Also how about renaming Return to BUDA to "return to last search"? That might be a low-tech solution to the problem. The combination of "return to last search" and the ability to minimize the viewer would pretty much solve the problem. What do you think?

Ok yes, that sounds good! In a first iteration let's just add a cross on the top right corner and keep the Return to BUDA button. The more I think about it the more I think you're right, the Return to BUDA option is probably not very clear, once people get used to the cross we can remove the current button...

Sounds good to me. But the word BUDA on the button should be reconsidered eventually because in a way all of it is BUDA.

I'm not sure we can add a cross here as there's already one in use on mobile to hide topbar:

but couldn't we add the version icon with a label like "Go to record" on the left of the link to collection? and I agree that Return to results seems more meaningful than Return to BUDA because it still is BUDA actually (I remember NT wanted us to do something like this a few months ago)

add the version icon

(I meant Scans icon not Version)

I think on mobile the close / open topbar could be a hamburger perhaps?

berger-n commented 2 years ago

ok let's give it a try

done for the desktop part: http://library-dev.bdrc.io/show/bdr:W4CZ368752?s=latest%3Fn%3D1#open-viewer

Kazam_screencast_00025 mp4

(not returning to results from outline for now, working on that)

It's works really well, just as intended. Thanks!
