Hi buddycore, at the moment it's in dev phase and won't be ready until 2.9 but you're more than welcome to run as a plugin and test it out, it is fully functional.
Currently I build the templates directly in my themes by creating a buddypress directory and inside of >there create activity, members, groups, blogs directories which house all of the modified templates for my >WordPress / BuddyPress theme.
And you still will the same principles will apply and creating a child theme or primary theme works the same way but if you have Nouveau activated those will be the core default files used.
So yes you still do your own thing for the moment using bp-legacy or your own better versions of those templates.
Thanks for getting back to me @hnla that clears it up now. Will definitely look at the code and see what's going on there.
Nice one, ty.
Sorry i meant bp-legacy, not default :) *edit - These template files look far cleaner, well done and good efforts. I'll use when suitable. Thanks
If possible could someone from the team explain to me what nouveau actually is and how I can get started with it?
Currently I build the templates directly in my themes by creating a

directories which house all of the modified templates for my WordPress / BuddyPress theme. Is this going to change for nouveau?
Is it going to be the same, just a new set of templates with clearer syntax and accessiblity?
or... is it entirely up to me still how I implement a BuddyPress template file?
Hope someone can shed some light on this, I've been thinking "should i build my themes with nouveau or stick to bp-default?" I now feel it doesn't really matter for custom themes. Am I right to think this at the moment?
