Just a quick note that this was on purpose. The deprecation must not trigger a schema error, so it had to stay defined in the function. With 4.3 we had quite some discussions on compatibility and the significance of minor vs major version increases. This is a good example of the tension between compatibility and a clean interoperable standard.
