Objective

Enable auth & rate limiting in PATH while writing as little code as possible.

Goals

Enable authentication & authorization in PATH using OSS 3rd party services
Enable configurable throughput and rate limiting using OSS 3rd party services

Deliverables

Use Envoy Proxy (including tools that it provides) in order to:

[x] Integrate with Auth0 for authorization & authentication
[x] Enable rate limiting & throughput limiting (from a configuration) in PATH
[x] Read the rate/throughput limiting policies from a Postgres DB
[x] The Postgres database reads links to Auh0 as the source of truth for user_id et al
[x] A README capturing the new architecture

Non-goals / Non-deliverables

Full parity with how Grove's portal works today

General deliverables

[x] Comments: Add/update TODOs and comments alongside the source code so it is easier to follow.
[x] Testing: Add new tests (unit and/or E2E) to the test suite.
[x] Makefile: Add new targets to the Makefile to make the new functionality easier to use.
[x] Documentation: Update architectural or development READMEs; use mermaid diagrams where appropriate.
