1 year ago Finally figured this one out. In your start menu look for the Settings app and then search for Microphone privacy settings (you can also search for it directly in the start menu). Once you find that option and opened it. The first option will likely say Microphone access for this device is off. Click the Change button and toggle it on. Once you've done that there should be an option bellow it Allow apps to access your microphone. You can also enable that if you want. And bellow that you can find more options to enable/disable it for explicit apps. Microphone should start working again. Might require a restart but in my case it didn't.
This was such an annoying thing to deal with.
Everything was fine before using this. My motherboard was a MSI B350 and had no mic issues. I try this utility and sure enough the next day mic stops working. Any kind of mic. USB, or through Wi-Fi via some android phone app. I end up buying another motherboard because I found a unused/unboxed x370 for cheap. Proceed to install windows, clean everything. Mic works fine. I use this utility again. Sure enough, the next day microphone stops working. Again, any kind of microphone.
There are two common denominators so far. This utility and the Realtek ALC892 Codec (and me, maybe). I will proceed to re-install windows today or tomorrow to see if the microphone works fine (again). But one thing is for sure. I am not touching this crap again.
