I'd like to see / present something along these lines too. My focus would be Windows and Desktopserver.

Perhaps a more advanced topic but... How to take the default m/w/x/amp installation and make it compatible with your hosting environment. That would include:

How to determine and install alternative versions of PHP, mySQL, Apache, etc.
How to determine the important Modules, Settings and Extensions you need to replicate in your localhost environment to ensure host compatibility.
How these changes can impact settings in Wordpress files (wp-config.php, .htaccess, etc.)

Upon review this may need to be broken into multiple sessions. I for one would be very interested in attending a presentation on this topic. I wish I had the skill set to present it.

@palibaacsi: What are your thoughts on this? It's a topic that we've covered before, but it's an evergreen one too --- people are always interested in it. A topic that touches on local dev and some aspects of version control would likely be popular.

For the time being, I'll leave this topic open as presentations on other options for local development are still worth considering for the future.
