Is this a Council-approved list, or do we need to go through the handle-reservation process here?
I'd prefer to add a new category (maybe call it "offensive") rather than reuse the "reserved" category so that it's clearer why the name isn't a good fit.
It's also probably okay if a proposed handle rhymes with an offensive word (e.g. "Titan" should be fine even if "Gitan" is offensive), since our goal here isn't to avoid radio confusion but to block specific words.
Finally, the handle checker currently shows a filterable list of unavailable callsigns. Are we okay with showing a pile of ethnic slurs on the page?
A different approach would be to add an "offensive words" handle checker rule rather than treating these as reserved callsigns. (Or broaden the FCC naughty words rule, which currently just has the Carlin Seven.) This would avoid flagging callsigns that just rhyme with slurs while still flagging names like "Gypsy Child". It also wouldn't show all known ethnic slurs at the bottom of the page. The rule could show a message like Gypsy is an ethnic slur for the Roma people rather than Gypsy Child contains Gypsy which is less obviously a problem.
