It is for security reasons, yes. I'd absolutely consider putting it behind a setting - that sounds logical.
No bandwidth currently for this but I'd accept a PR. The entire mobile app needs a UI overhaul soon anyway.

As a mobile user when I [navigate] back and forth between apps (i.e. phone and Buttercup (BC)) during a call where I have to reference and dial account related info (e.g. 16 digit bank card #) BC will often take a few seconds to make the screen I need visible again - with some impatient automated call services this can lead to me timing out because I haven't entered the numbers quick enough so then I have to wait in a queue because I haven't supplied my account info 😢
I presume the reason BC won't simply leave the screen visible while the user is navigating between apps is for security reasons?: if yes then I would like the option to remedy this as it's affecting my UX 🙏
