Cleaning around #255

I started reading around the code trying to learn how it works (hopefully I can contribute in some way). those are fixes I applied while I was reading. I'm not fixing any major thing but I think that I did not leave the code in a worst state I found.

@blazsolar fixed the initialisation of VlcPlayer and the compilation error
