Website for the App and App Icon #23

Closed ramijames closed 10 years ago

@shahruz I'd actually be really into doing the design for the website and doing the app icon. Would that be ok?

shahruz commented 10 years ago

@ramijames I really appreciate the offer but @clarklab is already working on the website design!

I'll be sure to let you know if there's any other design stuff needed. If you have any ideas of your own, please suggest them!

ramijames commented 10 years ago

Aww :)

What about the app icon?

shahruz commented 10 years ago

Clark did the current app icon as well (which can be seen in the Readme). Sorry, he got to it quick and I really like what he's done.

I'm sure there'll be opportunities to contribute on a design level soon, and I'll definitely let you know.

clarklab commented 10 years ago

If you can come up with a better icon, I'd totally use it. Right now I just kinda mashed two existing icons into one, and added some shine— but I'm sure a real icon nut could do better.

I've got the website under control though, and should be done with that pretty soon.

Thank for the offer!

ramijames commented 10 years ago

Shiny new icon it is then!

I'll use the current one as a "wireframe" and create a shiny homage to it. I think that the conceptual direction is great.

Awesome! Thanks guys!

Well, how about this? toolbox_icon_1024

Perhaps it might be worth waiting until Monday to see what the new visual style of OS X is going to be?

(I suppose this applies to the actual app, too.) Richard

The icons looks awesome! Waiting till monday is a goo idea. If the visual style of OS X changes, chances are that the toolbox will automatically adapt the new style since it only uses AppKit components for now.

ramijames commented 10 years ago

Thanks!

For the most part the icon and the actual app design are two separate things. It is recommended developer behaviour to follow the HIG set out by Apple. This means that even if there is a visual refresh in the next version of OSX (likely) then it will only be visual and not functional (for the most part).

The hard part of the app design is figuring out the key user workflows and setting a layout which fits those. Afterwards it's just colours :)

shahruz commented 10 years ago

Looks awesome! I agree that if 10.10 changes up the visual style, we should shoot to have it look native to that.

shahruz commented 10 years ago

Looks like the new style is flat & a bit cartoony(?). Should we update to fit the new aesthetic? @clarklab's earliest mockup would've worked with the new look.

clarklab commented 10 years ago

I like the shiny one, but I do think the "flat" toolbox might still look nice (especially, like you said, considering the new OSX look). The only beef I've got with the current/my icon is that it looks kinda muddy in the tray (when the app is actually running).

There is a website now and also a Icon. Icon

So isn't this issue resolved and can be closed?

shahruz commented 10 years ago

Yep, this seems like it's done! Obviously everything will get iterated upon, but I'm closing this out now! Thanks all!
