Splash upgrade #501

Adding more copy to the splash page. What do you think?

My thoughts:

  1. I am not happy with the current leader card (I think it should be pithier/have more content)
  2. The email-add does not work right now, but I'll add that soon
  3. The "read more" link is lame/does not work, but I am working on the blog post it points to

All of the above adjusted. There are lots of files in this PR because I have bad git discipline, and kept rolling in more things to support the blog post :disappointed: . I want to merge this to get draft feedback from Meghan.
