NVD3 is nice, but performance can be very poor/chunky on things like this . Would plotly's scattergl resolve this by delegating to webgl? Are we fine with this chunkiness until we have money?

I suspect we're fine until money, but should spike out scattergl ideas to at least confirm whether it could help.
