We should also be testing more against 1024 x 768

what would you suggest for this? adding max-width to the container or the name column and then adding ellipsis rules?

Yup, we can do that. I'm on my phone, so I don't know what the code looks like, but maybe we can make the table max-width: 100% so it fits within it's container. (Because fluid/responsive)
