Current engines a bit clunky

Currently, the pad gets completely re-written every second or so -- this resets the cursor location, making the pad feel clunky. This may get better with new api improvements. But in the mean time, two things that can mitigate:

• [ ] Refresh every 10 seconds instead
• [ ] Only refresh if content has changed
