Keycloak DB_ADDR unbound variable #175

Closed c0c0n3 closed 1 year ago

c0c0n3 commented 1 year ago

Describe the bug

After bootstrapping a KITT4SME cluster following the bootstrap procedure (including regenerating secrets), Keycloak gets stack in a crash loop back off. Originally reported by @ds2268.

To Reproduce

Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Do a fresh KITT4SME cluster bootstrap following the bootstrap procedure, including regenerating secrets.
  2. Wait a few minutes then run kubectl get pod. Keycloak's status should eventually be CrashLoopBackOff.
  3. Run kubectl logs svc/keycloak. You should see an error message DB_ADDR: unbound variable

Expected behavior

Keycloak should boot cleanly.

Additional context

N/A

c0c0n3 commented 1 year ago

So I couldn't actually reproduce this on a fresh install inside a Multipass VM---same version as that from the bootstrap procedure. Keycloak boots cleanly and there's no errors in the logs:

Added 'admin' to '/opt/jboss/keycloak/standalone/configuration/keycloak-add-user.json', restart server to load user

So I did it twice but still no luck---couldn't reproduce the second time around either. Maybe a race condition or maybe my image is different than @ds2268's---even if the tag is the same, Keycloack devs might've pushed updates to the same tag. Who knows.

Anyhoo, as pointed out by @ds2268, we're better off specifying explicitly what's our DB backend instead of relying on defaults

In fact, @ds2268 implemented a fix that worked like a charm

So we should throw in his fix for good measure :-)
