Automation via Cron Job #8

Automation of importing external images and setting featured images can be implemented with the help of Cron jobs if a hook is provided to outside.

Ditto - how can this be enhanced to automatically do this for each new post created? For example, I'm using the IFTT recipe to post on WordPress when I post in Instagram and the default rules don't provide much flexibility in setting a featured image.
