Pencil takes forever to load and perform actions #310

I installed the standalone version from the website (v1.2 build 0 it says in 
the help/about).

Opening Pencil takes minutes to happen.  Using the controls inside is okay but 
loading a document, accessing the properties through the context menu and other 
stuff takes minutes (litteraly).

I am using Windows XP SP3.

I'm using XUbuntu and I have the same problem so it does not seem to be related 
to the underlying O.S.
