Early warning of disk filling slowly #301

Closed tatarsky closed 9 years ago

For a week now there has been steady filling of the GPFS volume visible in the FG Space graphs.

While we have reasonable space remaining (133TB) as I am about to go on vacation I would urge folks to consider a little bit of cleanup generically. Basically I am nagging early.

If we need to produce the list of the folks doing the most added space lately I can via the quota logs but I figured I would start with just a simple heads up and request for cleaning.

Can you please report to hal-admins who currently has a high rate of additional disk consumption. Thanks!

Yes when I get a moment.

I just wanted to drop here that the "slowly" has changed to "rapidly" in the last days. Our free space is dropping at a > 10TB per day rate. Having a quite large "data footprint" myself, I don't do this to blame anybody but just to encourage people to follow Paul's suggestion above to clean up or talk to the admins if large amounts of space are needed.

I will post the largest changed usage by users using the quota reports later today to the mailing list.

I am unable to do so for awhile so I would encourage the use of the 'cbioquota' command as users to at least get some personal perspective on use.

I am on vacation however so preemptive cleaning is wise and appreciated.

We appear to have leveled off a bit so I will remove this and make a new one if we feel its heading low again!
