Corrupt images and videos never start playing or stop playing after 10 seconds #111

I downloaded latest 6.1 Windows build and I am using it on Windows 7.

Whenever I hit preview, it will show for some part of the screen a corrupt image and for the other a good picture but it does not start playing. It only played a couple of times, now every video is like that.

Internet connection is good, and temp folder only has a .mov file in it, although I tried many different times starting the screen saver. So shouldn't it have downloaded many others in there?

@jjgh About the corrupt image. Can you take a photo to show us what it looks like?

About the files not caching. How long did you leave it running? Can you try leaving it running for 20-30 minutes and then check the Aerial folder? When it downloads the movies it initially writes them to the C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEAppData\Local\Aerial\Temp folder and then as each download completes it moves them to C:\Users\YOURUSERNAMEAppData\Local\Aerial.

I left it running for long. Now I have a empty temp folder, and one file in the Aerial folder: comp_DB_D002_C003_t9_6M_HB_tag0.mov

Sometimes the screensaver will play videos, but it only plays for like 10 seconds, then it freezes. The downloaded file instead, when opened with a video player, plays regularly.

Can't take the screenshot now, but it looked like a compression artifact. That kind of black thing that you usually see sometime at the very beginning of a youtube video, if you know what I mean. Black with some drawing "paths" that kinda let you see that there is some image in there..

But this last for like 3 seconds then it disappears and the video starts playing, but as I said will keep playing just for like 10 seconds and then freeze completely.

Also I managed to see that temporary files are actually coming in, by suddenly stopping the screensaver with the temporary folder open and focused, and I could see the temporary file getting deleted. But in those x minutes before I stopped, I was looking at a still image. It was not playing for some reason.

So to recap, sometimes it shows a corrupted image, then starts playing, then stops in 5 or 10 seconds. Other times it shows a non corrupt image, but it never starts playing.

In any case the temporary file is being downloaded.

I found that disabling cache fixes it! Screensaver will play video and playback won't stop.

@jjgh I know you said that your internet connection is good but it really seems to me like a network issue. Are you using a laptop or a desktop? If its a laptop can you try on another network?

Not sure I can detect a frozen video, but while redoing the settings form, we can add the 'delete cache' button to remove corrupt videos.

@cdima Doesn't the screensaver clear out any partially deleted files every time you launch it? :)
