Ideas:

Find a public domain / creative commons list of words for building vocabulary. Select a word from this list.
Don't add any additional word list, but eliminate potentially uninteresting words from the word selection for these features. Examples:
- words with spaces are likely to be proper nouns which could be eliminated
- maybe a filter on the length of the word could help
