image collections must include field for rights #32

even if we only are supporting creative commons for now, we have to include a rights field in the default image collections. The default value should be CC-BY-SA but we should not hardcode this -- i.e. the design should allow for user selection among a set of default licenses. For now this might be limited to a list of one but it should still be there in the upload interface.

It might also be good to get some input from @lcerrato on what we need to display to the user regarding rights and uploads of image content. (although more discussion also needs to be had on exactly what we want to support in terms non-perseus originated image content)

we have various levels of rights in the current collection: none explicitly presented to the user but preserved (more or less) in the associated metadata.

  1. we have images Perseus holds the rights to (site photography by Perseus staff): these could be offered in high resolution without restrictions.
  2. we have images taken by friends/collaborators of Perseus; I typically refer the user to the individual in question for permissions, particularly in the case of commercial/print reuse: these could probably be offered in high resolution with non-commercial reuse (although the creator should obviously choose the license)
  3. we have images from museums: some museums offer high resolution; most do not; none would endorse commercial reuse; many use clearing houses for reuse (smaller ones do not)
  4. we have book images/drawings that are public domain
  5. we have images of uncertain origin or low resolution: there is a set of images for which I have nothing other than 72 dpi versions (cannot find slides) and I'm not sure of what kind of agreement they are offered under (or I can't find an agreement)
  6. we have working images for which there is no or scant metadata. Ideally these would be integrated into the larger collection but invisible to users.

All of this needs to be set on an image by image basis: some of the museum image collections have different permissions within the collection.
