Beatmania IIDX Slowdown #1336

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
2) What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Play free mode
2. Select a song, it'll play slowly
3. Select continue after the song is done playing
4. Notice it'll be running at full speed with no lag on the second play through

3) What exactly happens when you experience this issue (listing any console
errors or screen output you receive)?
The game and menus play properly, but there's a problem with slowdown. When
you play a song, it'll attempt to load the song into memory as you're playing
it. If you it continue and play the song again after you play it once, there
won't be any slowdown whatsoever.

4) What version of PCSX2 are you using? On what operating system? Plugins?
PCSX2 r5423
Win 7 x64
ZeroGS 0.97.1 (I've noticed this gives best performance for the game)
SPU2-X

Interesting bug.. how exactly does it sound? or does the whole game run slowly
first time?

If you pause it and restart the song does that resolve the slowness?

Sounds like a problem we recently looked into:
Say, do you happen to have Intel's SATA controller drivers installed?

Hey, sorry about the lack of feed back. I downloaded the latest revision and
the problem persists.

For some answers to your questions
- You can't pause a song in IIDX 16, or at least none that I know of, so you
have to wait until the end before you can play it again
- The entire game was running a little bit laggy, but that's fixed now with the
latest versions of ZeroGS. Now it's just lag when you run the song. What
happens is the song will be all jumpy as it plays, the entire game slows down
when this happens.
- As far as I know, no I don't have Intel's SATA controller drivers, I just
have what came standard with Win7.

Here's a gameplay video that I took of it so you can see how the slowdown
occurs the first time I play a song and then how it doesn't occur the next time
I play it.

The video makes it seem like a hardware issue on your end, maybe coupled with
emulation issues from all the CDVD traffic.
I'd have to look at it on my machine but the game is obscure and no one in the
team has it.

Alright, I'm going to try and get my hands on a copy of Beatmania (US) because
it seems to be running the same engine and copies of the game usually go for $3
or less. This way if the problem persists in emulation it'll be easier for you
guys to get a copy to try out.

Gah, I'm sorry I'm so stupid. I went and played Beatmania in the CD drive and
there was no slowdown. The reason for the slowdown was actually rather simple,
I forgot I moved the backup iso that I was using to play IIDX 16 to my external
hard drive which is only usb 2.0 and was playing from that. After moving the
iso to my main hard drive is reads properly.

Please mark this issue as invalid

Okay, no problem. At least there's nothing to do for this beatmania :p
