Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land freezes at the end of the first battle #257

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
tried different computers and different plugins - issue exists since 0.9.4
(and probably before that but that's where i first tried it)

screen freezes (stopping pcsx2 and continuing produces only the screen
border in windowed and a black screen in full-screen mode) sound continues
playing and the "Game running" window always shows

Tested on r2416:

The game doesn't load at all with Linuz ISO Driver 0.9.0, cdvdGigaherz 0.8.0,
or the
built-in ISO Selector (tested all with the Skip BIOs Hack checked/unchecked). It
seems to get stuck on "Load Module cdrom0:¥SIO2MAN.IRX;1" and loops that over
and over.

It only gets past the startup loop by using CDVDolio 0.1.0.

Once ingame, the initial reported problem happens after finishing any battle
(tried
it on a new game and older saves that are located in other dungeons) - game
hangs
prior to the victory screen and the battle music continues playing. Tested
with/without speedhacks and different combinations of GSdx r2423m, ZeroGS
0.97.1,
SPU2-X r2393m, ZeroSPU2 r2361m.

Why are your plugins modified? (the m at the end of the revision signifies
that). I
suggest retesting with unmodified plugins. If you're downloading these from a
third
party either switch to someone who doesn't modify them or build them yourself

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I am building them myself. I always build after cleaning the solutions so I'm
not
sure where the modified is coming from.

Recompiled r2425 without the modified flags - looked like it was caused by 2
wxWidget
files being cranky

Same startup loop errors as well as the victory screen hang.

Hm ok, try turning on some speed hacks so we'll see if cycle/timing affects the
game.
Try setting EE cycle rate to x1.5 or x2 (or even x3 in 0.9.6)and IOP sync x2.
See if
the behavior changes at all

I also would like to see this problem solved and have been checking up for
solultions in forum and google code for quite some time and have experienced
the
exact same problems mensioned in original post and comments in reguard to both
the
startup problem (bypassed by using dvddolio as commented) and the main problem
with
the victory screen hang. I have also tried many combinatations of settings and
versions of PCSX2 and plugins and still have not found a solution to victory
screen
problem. As gyoru007 did not reply via comment to the last request made by
pcsx2guide I decided to reply with the results to above suggestion instead. I
tried
all combination of speed hacks including setting EE cycle and IOP sync x2 and
neither worked. I also tried changing interpreter/recompilers for both the
EE/IOP
and the VU's plus the various advanced options for them. using interpreter
always
resulted in complete graphical distortion and still seemed to hang on victory
from
what I could see and using advanced options did not get past the hang on
victory
screen either. This issue victory screen hang appears to remain still 100%
unsolved
even with latest SVN's and plugins. If futher testing is required please post
your
suggested fix and I will do most best to do so.

OK thanks for testing. Unfortunately from all these results, it seems we have
no idea
about where the problem lies. The best you can do now is provide us a block
dump of
the game reaching up to the victory screen hang.

I would but as stated in previous comments the only way to get the game to run
initially is to use the cdvdolio plugin but then you still get hang on victory
screen. However the only way I can see to get a block dump is to use the linuz
iso
plugin and enable it through there but the game will not even startup let along
get
to victory screen of 1st battle through that plugin? Giving you a block dump
through
linuz iso may give you data to help with the startup issue (bypassed with
cdvdolio)
but it would give you data to help with the main victory screen hang issue? Is
there any way to create a block dump while still using cdvdolio plugin to get
past
startup issue so I can create a block dump which includes data on the main
problem?

managed to past the loading issue using linuz iso and create a dump file up to
the
point where it freezes after the first battle like was asked before unlike
previous
dump which only had startup included. Can't attach here due to file size
limits so
here is a temp rapidshare link to it. Hope it helps

I have the full game, and yeah, no idea why it hangs there yet.

That dump is useless anyway unless you also attach your memory card or tell the
exact
settings and names you used while running the game when this dump was created.

Glad your still looking into it ramapcsx2 hopefully it won't prove to much more
difficult to troubleshoot and solve. Prafull I appogise for not including the
info
with the dump but I did not realise you needed it. I am not sure which mem
card I
used for that dump or what settings for certain now so I have uploaded a new
dump
with all requested info and copy of plugin and plugin ini files as well as
config
data and mem cards. Should be all needed stuff there to access the new dumps
if
just ask I put the copy of emu aside and am not touching it incase you need
more
info. the temp rapid link for the new dump is
http://rapidshare.com/files/368962572/Wizardry_Dump_Package.rar.html
hopefully 3rd times the charm and that has everything you need otherwise just
ask.
Well great to see you's are hot on the trail of the problem and great work as
always
with your emu developement PCSX2 team keep up the great work. If you need any
futher info or assistance please don't hesitate to ask
