Time Crisis 2 & 3 do not boot (FW and VIF issues) #630

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
1. Launch either of these 2 games
2. Everything seems to load fine (no errors), but the gfx never
initialize - stays at a black screen.

What version of PCSX2 are you using? On what operating system? Plugins?
Has happened on every single build of PCSX2 that I've tried including the
latest betas (r2789). Using Win 7 - default plugins.

Please provide any additional information below.
- Emulog attached of the game launching (if it helps).
- 'Crisis Zone' (Time Crisis 3 1/2 effectively) works flawlessly.

Using the "FWlinuz" plugin looks like they do boot, but hang on the very first
Namco
screen. Progress I guess..? :)

Thanks for killing our hosting space.
I guess this wasn't clear enough for you:
Attachments. *IMPORTANT!* We have a limited storage quota on
GoogleCode, so please keep attachments to UNDER 200k!

And no, we can't delete it now.

Easy. I deleted it, ok. When doing "replies" it just says there's a 10meg
limit.
Your notice is only displayed when entering NEW bugs. I thought a 1meg file
would be
ok, but I guess not. I know block dumps are helpful for squashing bugs so here
it is
hosted elsewhere:

Yes the problem is even if you 'deleted' it, Google Code still keeps a copy that
normally counts towards our maximum space allowed.

Yeah, I am curious about the problem with these titles. They do boot, but just
hang on the first screen (logo). I assume it's quite an undertaking, unless it
just hasn't really been looked at thoroughly. These are the only 2 games in my
collection that remain unemulated. Let me know if there's anything more we can
provide to assist with this! Thanks!

Firewire using games. They expect some reply from the FW hardware on boot.
We'll work on this stuff when someone feels like it, but it'll prolly take a
while.

Original comment by ramapcsx2 on 9 Jul 2010 at 11:58

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Thanks for the reply. Now, does the FWlinuz plugin do that or only partially?
Cause the game boots now with it - or at least it gets to the Namco screen (not
sure if that counts). I assume it's probably waiting for more firewire feedback
or something. Oh well, someday then!

Original comment by wespipe...@gmail.com on 10 Jul 2010 at 1:21

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Well, we are making progress. As of r3916, TC2 & TC3 can finally boot! To do
this, you need the following config:

"Enable Fast CDVD" ticked
Bios >= 2.20
FWLinuz Firewire plugin (not available in svns unfortunately)

TC3 can play just fine - though it looks there's some fog issues.

Unfortunately, TC2 boots no problem, but hangs on the loading screen when
entering gameplay. The loading animation loops but it never enters the game. So
hopefully, that'll be worked out somehow.

Can we maybe take this off the "backburner" and into "open" issues so we can
track it better and others can find it?

Yeah, sure. Incidentally, this change broke Harry Potter though.
Seems Jake opened another can of worms there :p

As of r4463, Time Crisis no longer needs FWLinuz to boot, but it does still
require "Enable Fast CDVD" ticked and a bios >=2.20. It also still hangs on
load screen when trying to enter gameplay.

Above comment was just for TC2 - and it's still unable to go ingame as of r4603.

Attached a verbose log that should help the investigation. Please let me know
if there's anything more I can provide.

Here's what happens when I try to enter gameplay:

Ok.....so Time Crisis 2 can now load in-game! This happened with the last few
weeks is all I can tell at this point.

BUUUUT, now Time Crisis 3 cannot boot (it hangs at the Namco logo like it used
to a long time ago). Tried everything and can't get past it.

Kinda funny how neither worked, and then one got working, and then the other
got working, but now the first one stopped working. Ugh. :) Let me know what
you need from me to help on getting BOTH of these games running and keeping it
that way!

Crap, might have spoken too soon there, Time Crisis 2 just crashed
transitioning from Act 1 to Act 2. The gfx started getting slowly more and more
corrupted and then the whole emu crashed as Act 2 began.

Attached is the log, but nothing too suspicious there. But maybe a another read
error like with it's brother TC3. Boy, these are some fussy games!!! :)

Are you saying something has changed from where things stood awhile ago

Enabling that hack is neccessary period for those games, but TC3 still does not
boot in recent revs with that.

you guys.

How about adding the CDVD-hack to "Automatic Gamefixes" for these games?
Might be worth something.

Yeah, this seem more than just a speed hack. How many other hacks actually make
games playable like this one does? This definetely should be moved to "Game

How are you getting to the menu? I'm using r4942 and nothing has changed since
my comment 19 - hangs on the logo screen at boot (NTSC). Hopefully the
regression introduced in May which broke TC3 can be resolved enabling both of
these fussy games to be playable once and for all.

Original comment by wespipe...@gmail.com on 20 Oct 2011 at 6:48

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
As of r4952, here's where we are at:

TC3: Playable (again)
--"Enable Fast CDVD" ticked or else game will hang entering gameplay.
--Bios >= 2.20 or hang at boot

TC2: Not Playable
--"Enable Fast CDVD" doesn't seem to make a difference anymore.
--Bios >= 2.20 or hang at boot

When entering gameplay, the game now hangs on the load screen like it used to
(comment 10) with the following contantly looping in the console:

CdRead: Reading Sector 260645(17 Blocks of Size 2340) at Speed=24x
