Gradius 3+4 US +SPU-X = no sound

Hello, there's a strange bug with SPU-X and Gradius 3+4 US only
-> no sound in game
but sound OK with Gradius 3+4 Jap :P

With PEOPS SPU2 or ZeroSPU2+ G34US sound is OK

1) What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

svn 4156 but bug is old
Vista 64 E6500 4gb 

2) What steps will reproduce the problem?

run the US version of GRADIUS 3+4 with SPU-X (all modules tested)
sound is OK on movies but no sound or music in game except few FX (explosions 
in G3)

3) What is the expected output?  What do you experience instead?
SPU-X sound is OK with the JAP version of Gradius 4+5

4) Please provide any additional information below.

Curious: a french guy how has access to the Jap & US versions of these games, 
but not the European. How can this be?

We already found what the issue is.
It's surprising behavior though and we'll need to do some more tests on it for 
a good fix.
