Fatal Frame 1&2 Camera Mode Non-Existent? #999

[The following is a template to help you fill out a more informative
report]

Note:
Many games do not run yet, or have known problems. Please do not report
those games without giving any more information. That means reports like
"Game XYZ crashes" are not helpful. Instead try to include as much debug
information as possible. The last 5 console messages for example, or if the
crashes can be circumvented / fixed by another configuration would help
much more.

--------------------------------------

1) Did the game ever work correctly (i.e. not have this problem) on the
Official PCSX2 build or an earlier version of PCSX2 playground?
(If so, please specify the latest pcsx2-playground or Official revision
that last worked.)

2) What steps will reproduce the problem?
When you already obtain the camera and attempt to go into Camera Mode.

3) What exactly happens when you experience this issue (listing any console
errors or screen output you receive)?
When pressing the button for the camera, it doesn't respond; the button doesn't
seem to have any function at all. I [b]can't go into Camera mode in any way.[/b]

Other than that, the game went fine (up to the first ghost encounter that is).

4) What version of PCSX2 are you using? On what operating system? Plugins?
Version : 0.9.7
OS : Win7 32-bit
GS : ZeroGS 0.97.1 [ZeroGS]
PAD : SSSPSX Pad Pressure Mod 1.7.1 [PadSSSPSX]
SPU2 : SPU2-X r2693 1.4.0 [SPU2-X-2]
CDVD : Linuz Iso CDVD 0.9.0 [CDVDIso]
USB : USBnull Driver 0.7.0 [USBnull]
FW : FWnull Driver 0.6.0 [FWnull]
DEV9 : DEVnull Driver 0.5.0 [DEV9null]

5) Please provide any additional information below.

6) Attachments. *IMPORTANT!* We have a limited storage quota on
GoogleCode, so please keep attachments to UNDER 200k! Do not upload
blockdumps! Do not upload MP3 dumps. Use 3rd party image hosts for
screenshots when possible.

---------------------------------------

I tried Googling for answers, but it doesn't seem to have one anywhere. Maybe
it's just me and the settings? :/ My computer specs shouldn't be an issue
because I just bought it this year, with 2.40GHz CPU and 1G graphics.

Thank you so much in advance.

If by "Camera Mode" you mean that you play the game through the eyes of the
character you control, then the answer is this: in the "Directors Cut" edition
of Fatal Frame 2 (Project Zero in Europe) there is a Camera Mode.
This edition was only released on XBOX.
FF\PZ 1, FF\PZ 2 & FF\PZ 3 on PS2 does not have this mode.
FF\PZ 4 was only released on Nintendo Wii.

Camera Mode or Finder's Mode.

Meaning when you take up the camera to fight the ghosts/take pictures, you'll
be looking through your camera lenses. No shot can be taken without that mode.

I can't use that mode at all; pressing Circle doesn't put me in that mode like
how it should in actual PS2.

Both Fatal Frame series have the same problem (1 and 2; 3 can't be played :/).

Or in a simpler description, I can't use my camera at all.

Sorry for the confusion.

The European versions (Project Zero) works almost flawlessly.
Try using the latest from EMUCR: http://www.emucr.com/search/label/PCSX2
Try using the GsDx plugin.
Try update your graphics driver.
Try update your DirectX.
Otherwise you graphicscard may be too lame.

Works fine for me in Fatal Frame 1 and 2.
Of course there's still that Z buffer download issue, so actually "shooting"
the ghosts is nearly impossible (use software rendering to fix).

ramapcsx2: the phenomena you describe have occurred for me as well, but only on
PZ1.
It appears to be the game it self that causes it, and shows when it thinks you
have blowed an opportunity.
The game can also jam it self when it thinks you have neglected to save,
and this has happened for me when playing it on console as well.
PCSX2 emulates this by doing some illegal C++ runtime stuff, which makes
Windows terminate the program; an incorrect solution according to me.

Thank you for the feedbacks. I appreciate them.

I bought my PC just this year with decent specs. They're not the best of the
best, but at least they should be good enough to play an emulator that was
developed years ago.

I'm using North American copy. Are NA copies not playable in this emulator?

Your PC specs don't have anything to do with this.
Neither has the age of the emulator (which isn't even done yet, just btw ;) ).

My copy of the game is the same region, so it's definitely a problem on your
end.
I just can't say what it could be.

pg...@yahoo.se:
When the game crashes on a real console, PCSX2 is expected to give any form of
bad error.
It may crash, it may show tons of TLB misses, or it may just hang the game.
It's not really feasible to try and work out a graceful shutdown, just for the
sake of it :p
