Isn't this more or less already covered in https://github.com/caktus/developer-documentation? I thought the general plan was to move the docs out of this template.

This does seem more detailed than http://caktus.github.io/developer-documentation/branching.html#production-releases, maybe we can find a way to work it into the developer documentation?
