white screen upon loading rom, ti 84 ce python #136

Open jaybotdev opened 3 years ago

jaybotdev commented 3 years ago

(Thanks for reporting an issue! Please make sure to fill out the blanks below.)

What's wrong, and with what software version?

5.6.0 using artifice … (see in 2nd+mem ->About) 0.0.14 … (shown on the TI-Boy menu, or if you built it yourself please specify which commit) white screen after loading rom, revision l-0221r … (including, if applicable what you expect vs. what happens)

What are the steps to reproduce this issue?

Any logs, error output, screenshot, other comments...?

adriweb commented 3 years ago

Just to be clear, this is the American "TI-84 Plus CE Python" calculator, right? (Not the "TI-84 Plus CE-T Python Edition" European model?). I'm just asking because this is the earliest one we're seeing, both in date and hardware revision letter. It probably doesn't matter, but who knows....

Does the issue happen with other roms?

jaybotdev commented 3 years ago

its the american one, ill try a different rom i was using pokemon red for gameboy

jaybotdev commented 3 years ago

i tried a tetris rom and it white screened as well

calc84maniac commented 3 years ago

Does it freeze the calculator entirely or can you still get back to the menu and exit? Have any roms worked?

adriweb commented 3 years ago

On my rev. S 84+CE Python, I was able to reproduce the issue too AFTER having run the python app - apparently this is a known issue. @jacobly0 knows more :)

jaybotdev commented 3 years ago

i completely reset my calculator and it still doesnt work. its just a freeze white screen

jaybotdev commented 3 years ago

no roms have worked yet but if you want to send a rom that for sure works that i can test sure

jaybotdev commented 3 years ago

hello ?

adriweb commented 3 years ago

An real fix will be developed but it takes a bit of time to properly do it and test it since it's not that simple. I've had it working again on my calc after combinations of turning off and on the calc again but without running python in between... it's a bit weird. Now I'm unable to reproduce the issue consistently :/

calc84maniac commented 3 years ago

Could you try replacing the launcher program with this and see if it fixes the issue? I'm not ready to make a new release at the moment, but I'm interested to see if this particular fix will work on your calculator: TIBOYCE.zip

@jaybotdev Have you gotten a chance to try the potential fix? I'd like to know if it improves things sometime before I prepare the next release.

You can use the same one you have been using, or download the latest release if you lost it.

jaybotdev commented 3 years ago

it just crashes now

calc84maniac commented 3 years ago

Is it crashing immediately when starting the emulator, or when trying to start a game?

jaybotdev commented 3 years ago

starting a game

calc84maniac commented 3 years ago

Huh, that's pretty unexpected. You're definitely using version 0.1.3 for the dat file? Older versions might crash on current hardware.

adriweb commented 1 year ago

how about with the very-latest version that just came out? See https://github.com/calc84maniac/tiboyce/releases/latest

ego-lay-atman-bay commented 1 year ago

That's weird, I'm also on ti-84 plus ce python edition (american) and it works just fine. My advice would be to redownload the release, and convert the roms through the website (might be better than the exe).
