A typical graphical renderer would render an mi element as the characters
in its content, with no extra spacing around the characters (except
spacing associated with neighboring elements).
The default mathvariant and fontstyle would (typically) be "normal" (non-
slanted) <b>unless the content is a single character, in which case it
would be "italic"</b>. Note that this rule for mathvariant and fontstyle
attributes is specific to mi elements; the default value for the
mathvariant and fontstyle attributes on other MathML token elements
is "normal".
