So the idea is to make quick, in-the-moment changes to the leader to get highest potential benefits?
Basically, yeah
I suppose it would be all right to just leave that leader in place till the next pick-and-action, to give a better shot at leveling-up to a wider array of them
Came to second this idea. Although I'd do it this way: main leader set separately, leader change per action set separately. E.g. I have a main leader (manager) for hunting, which is changed to metallurgist for a metal craft, and then changed back to hunter. Same for other actions: set action-specific leader, do action, set main leader.
When sending out hunters, set leader to a Manager
When sending a trade caravan, set leader to a Merchant
When crafting wood, set leader to an Artisan
When crafting steel, set leader to a Metallurgist
Etc.
