Touch not working well HTC Hero #28

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Simply playing any song
2.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
it should hit the notes but only one in every 5 or so actually work

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Android 2.1

Please provide any additional information below.
I keep trying and I know Im hitting the notes but it always registers as a miss
