Please provide the basis for the “up to 33%” reductions in water extractions that you refer to in the abstract. I cannot find another reference to 33% reduction in the main text. Is it calculated using values on bars in Fig 4? I could not get 33% comparing the baseline with the shortest bar. The authors should not leave it to the readers to derive these, especially a finding important enough to be highlighted in the abstract. Also, “up to 33%” is somewhat weak/qualified. Can you clarify (is it by cluster, by scenario), and/or provide a mean, or range?
Also in the abstract, report the specific and important findings resulting from the GIS-based analysis and the levelized cost of water (LCW) analysis for wastewater (WW) treatment technologies, rather than simply reporting you performed these analyses. (I.e. report what you find not just what you did.)
