In a few of our charms (including some I have worked on), I haven't seen that we are pinning dependency versions. I'm not sure if there has been any thinking done on this topic yet? In general, pinning dependency versions and then deliberately updating them as a routine tasks is considered good practice so that the charm keeps working even if new versions of dependencies have breaking changes.
