LightDM Won't Wake Laptop On Lid Open #368

I use a System 76, Galago Pro 3 and have experienced this persistent problem with LightDM intermittently not waking my laptop when the lid is opened. I have experienced this problem on multiple operating systems, different versions of the Linux kernel, and different DE's. It occurs mainly with LightDM. When I switch to GDM of SDDM, my laptop wakes on lid open as intended.

I have had this issue both with and without the System 76 firmware package.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Boot up computer.
  2. Log in using LightDM (works on first boot just fine).
  3. Use computer for 30 minutes to an hour.
  4. Close the lid.
  5. Leave lid closed for about 15-20 minutes (I've had it happen with as few as 5 minutes closed).
  6. Open lid again.
  7. LightDM does not wake the computer. The screen is blank, and the computer does not respond to keyboard or mouse input. Pressing the power button to force wake the computer does nothing. I essentially have to shut down the computer and try again, sometimes losing work in the process.

Closed-- after some further investigation I think this may be down to another package on my system rather than strictly lighdm.
