Landscape: "Distribution" term entry #49

Closed YanisaHS closed 1 month ago

YanisaHS commented 3 months ago

Write about the term distribution and how it relates to Landscape. Your entry shouldn’t simply describe what a distribution is; the goal is to explain how distributions relate to Landscape. For example, distributions are relevant to Landscape with repository mirroring.

There is an existing page with a super short description: https://ubuntu.com/landscape/docs/explanation-distribution. You can change that if you want, but you don’t need to include that description if you don’t want to.

You should provide the entry as a Markdown file and put it in this file path: landscape/explanation/glossary/distribution.md. If any directories are missing, add them so your file path matches the one provided.

Prerequisites

A general understanding of how Landscape works and experience using and installing Landscape.

However, you don’t need any prior experience if you’re willing to explore the Landscape Docs and spend time learning about Landscape.

Hi, @YanisaHS kindly assign this issue to me. I don't have experience using Landscape but I'm willing to explore it and ultimately come up with something worthwhile.

YanisaHS commented 2 months ago

@ade555 Awesome! I've just assigned it to you. Let me know if you have any questions  Otherwise, I look forward to seeing that PR!

Hi, @YanisaHS. I couldn't get around to this last week, but I'm working on it already. I'd like to confirm something if that's okay.

When talking about Distributions in this context, we're referring to the different Ubuntu variants available, right? I saw something online saying there's a possibility of using Landscape with a different distro such as Arch.

@ade555 Sounds good! And yes, we're just talking about Ubuntu for this one
