No audio in steam store, in games works fine #303

Open Astrosus opened 11 months ago

Astrosus commented 11 months ago

Is there an existing issue for this?

Have you checked the wiki for solutions?

Is this a Steam Snap-specific issue?

Current Behavior

Presently I am getting no sound in the steam store or any other part of the app. I have observed no issues with sound while playing any games launched by steam. Also I do not have any audio issues with other applications chrome, firefox, rhythombox, videos, etc. And to answer the obvious question, yes I have make sure the volume is moved to max in the video player.

I used to use pipewire for audio and have scene reverted back to pulseaudio, no change in results.

Expected Behavior

Expect to hear sound when a video plays

Steps To Reproduce

Go to Store Select any game page Video auto plays, but hear no sound.

Same thing happens to me. I have both flatpak and snap versions of Steam installed. Only Steam snap has this issue.

kenvandine commented 11 months ago

We've reproduced the issue and are working on it.

sasdallas commented 8 months ago

Also having this problem. I read it could be pulseaudio, in logs it does show it's using that.

eeickmeyer commented 8 months ago

Experiencing the issue here, no sound in client or big picture mode.

raphaelchinchilla commented 7 months ago

Same issue... @kenvandine any news about fixing it? I heard that the apt and flatpak versions do not suffer from this issue

We don't have a timeline for a fix at the moment, but we're aware this is a snap-specific problem.

raphaelchinchilla commented 7 months ago

Is there any advantage on using the snap vs the .deb or the flatpak?

transcendtient commented 3 months ago

Just had this issue on a system with no flatpaks or snaps. In my case it was pulseaudio and this suggested fix solved my issue. rm -r ~/.config/pulse; pulseaudio -k https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PulseAudio I didn't even need to relog. I had the same issue with sound queues in Discord.
