dxvk::DxvkError when trying to launch Proton games #37

Open thatLeaflet opened 2 years ago

thatLeaflet commented 2 years ago

Describe the bug Note: I first reported this bug in this thread, but am making it into a new report because it seems unrelated to the /mnt issue as it occurs whether the game is in /mnt or in my home directory.

When trying to launch any Proton game, the game immediately terminates due to a dxvk:DxvkError. At most, I can get a quick glance at the game's installer. So far, the games I've tested are: Cyberpunk 2077, Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3, and My Name is Mayo.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Try to launch any Proton game
  2. Game almost immediately crashes, log shows a dxvk:DxvkError

Expected behavior The game will launch

Additional context

Cyberpunk 2077 Steam Log File dmsg system log. This covers from computer bootup (at 13:06:37) to launching the game (I hit the play button at 13:07:00). It also has a few seconds after the game crashed.

I was able to launch and play Fallout 4 with Proton 7.0-3, but not Proton Experimental. However, Cyberpunk 2077 ran into the Dxvk error both on Proton 7.0-3 and Proton Experimental.

I randomly get this same exact error with Fallout New Vegas, although weirdly it only started doing this recently, so it might be a mod, although for the life of me I can't figure out which

kenvandine commented 1 year ago

@thatLeaflet can you please try this again with steam from the edge channel?

thatLeaflet commented 1 year ago

@kenvandine Unfortunately can't, I currently don't have an Ubuntu install.

Are your Proton installs on main HDD or on an external device? (i mean Proton itself, not the games)

ashuntu commented 1 month ago

If not already, this may work now with 2.64 snapd. You can try by refreshing snapd with snap refresh snapd --edge (and restarting). Make sure to go back to stable after testing with snap refresh snapd --stable.
