The default hostname auto-populated under "Your computer's name" seems to be nonsensical in 23.10(.1):
The legacy installer of 23.10 gets it right:
Just try to install Ubuntu 23.10(.1) from USB.
It looks like the solutions to https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-desktop-installer/issues/338 and https://github.com/canonical/ubuntu-desktop-installer/issues/2085 may be the cause.
