Idea: log viewer #288

Nice idea from Ken: make it possible to show logs in the UI. The log view could be accessible by a shortcut and/or a small subtle indicator somewhere, for example.

I like the idea too, but we should make sure that the log view is very easy to discard to go back to the installer itself (I can imagine users invoking the log view by accident, and freaking out because they don't know what happened). This will require design input.

Hi @long-chung, would this be something you could help with later? Probably not a high-priority task. :)

@jpnurmi Sure, this is something we can look at at some point. Is the idea for the log to be accessible at any point during the installation process or only when files are being written like the screen shot below?

@long-chung The idea was that this log would be accessible from anywhere. The log contains detailed debug/info/warning/error messages mostly for troubleshooting purposes. The question is how to access the log - something not too prominent yet discoverable enough?

could be closed as fixed right?

jpnurmi commented 1 year ago

@seb128 the log viewer is only available during the installation slides. @kenvandine had an idea to allow showing the log viewer from any page.
