Great job! So if I understand it correctly, the changes you've made is primary for aws - linux / redhat right?

I'm closing this because this seems to have a different purpose. But feel free to create a separate gem for this. Alternatively, this needs some (heavy) refactoring to flexibly switch between Amazon and (plain) Linux.
